The loss of his mother marked a turning point in Dr. Solomon Obiri-Yeboah’s life, making it difficult to continue his studies. Financial constraints forced him to repeat courses during his medical education at the University of Ghana Dental School from 2001 to 2004. However, dropping out was never an option for him because of what he describes as “the God factor.” He persisted, navigating the struggles of food insecurity, financial stress, and academic demands.

A significant breakthrough came when Dr. Asante Poku, a lecturer at the medical school, noticed his challenges and connected him with individuals who could assist. Through introductions to the school accountant and Mr. Fred Asare, Director of the Village of Hope Orphanage Home, Dr. Solomon Obiri-Yeboah found a lifeline. Though initially ineligible for support due to his age, his younger sister was accepted, and eventually, the orphanage took over his tuition fees and provided him with a monthly stipend. This support enabled him to focus on his studies without academic referrals, setting the stage for his future accomplishments.

Dr. Solomon Obiri-Yeboah specializes in craniofacial surgery, a subspecialty of maxillofacial surgery that addresses deformities and abnormalities of the skull, face, and jaw. His expertise encompasses the treatment of congenital conditions, such as facial clefts and syndromic deformities, as well as acquired issues like trauma and tumors. Currently, he heads the Departments of Oral, Maxillofacial Surgery, and Community Dentistry at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. He is also a Senior Specialist Oral and Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

His journey into craniofacial surgery began during his residency at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
