New Patriotic Party: A dedicated leader steps down, and a new one rises

The national leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in collaboration with the National Council, has made the significant decision to replace the current Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nkwakaw constituency in the Eastern Region, Joseph Frempong, ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections.

This decision, which is expected to shape the party’s future in the constituency, was reached during an emergency meeting held in Accra on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

Joseph Frempong, who has served the Nkwakaw constituency with dedication, is currently facing serious health challenges. Unfortunately, these health issues will prevent him from fully participating in the rigorous campaigns necessary for the upcoming elections. Mr. Frempong’s absence from the race is a heartfelt moment for both the constituency and the party, as he has been a steadfast representative, advocating for development and the welfare of his people.

In light of this, the NPP has selected David Asante, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Publishing Company Limited, as the party’s new parliamentary candidate for the Nkwakaw constituency. Mr. Asante is not new to the political landscape of Nkwakaw. A proud indigene of the area, he contested Joseph Frempong in the party’s parliamentary primaries in January 2024. Although he was unsuccessful in securing the nomination at that time, fate has presented him with a new opportunity to serve his people.

David Asante is well-known for his leadership capabilities and his deep roots in the community, making him a fitting choice to carry forward the NPP’s vision in the constituency. His familiarity with local issues, coupled with his experience in corporate governance, positions him as a strong contender in the 2024 general elections.

With Joseph Frempong’s unfortunate inability to continue, Mr. Asante is stepping into big shoes.
