John Mahama Vows to Abolish Betting Tax and E-Levy in Bono East Campaign
During his tour of the Bono East Region, NDC Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, reaffirmed his party’s promise to abolish the controversial betting tax if elected into office.
Speaking to a crowd in Nkwabeng, Nkoranza South, Mahama emphasized that eliminating this tax would allow those who engage in betting to retain their full winnings.
“We will remove the betting tax. The government will no longer take a cut from your winnings,” Mahama announced, while urging the youth to use their money wisely, advising them to invest in improving their lives rather than spending recklessly.
In addition to abolishing the betting tax, Mahama reiterated the NDC’s commitment to scrapping the unpopular E-Levy, which has faced widespread criticism since its introduction. He assured supporters that removing the E-Levy would bring much-needed relief to mobile money users, freeing them from additional charges during transactions.
This pledge to remove both taxes is expected to resonate strongly with the youth and mobile money users, offering potential financial relief during these economically challenging times.
