Franklin Cudjoe Raises Alarms Over Economic Hardships and Government Response

Franklin Cudjoe Raises Alarms Over Economic

Franklin Cudjoe Raises Alarms Over Economic: President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has voiced deep concerns about Ghana’s persisting economic troubles, criticizing the government’s approach to addressing citizen struggles amid rising dissatisfaction.

His remarks followed an Afrobarometer survey revealing that 82% of Ghanaians believe the country is on the wrong track. While this figure marks a slight decrease from the 87% recorded in 2022, it remains a clear indication of significant dissatisfaction with current economic conditions and deteriorating living standards.

Citizens Seek Tangible Solutions Amid Rising Living Costs

Highlighting the widespread frustration, Cudjoe pointed out that the general population is grappling with worsening economic circumstances, with rising costs amplifying frustrations. In his view, the government’s attempts at self-praise fall short of meeting the immediate needs of Ghanaians, who require visible improvements in their daily lives rather than assurances.

“People are really worried that the trajectory and the economic management of this country is at its toughest,” he remarked during an interview with Channel One on Saturday, November 2. “The fact that managing directors are not held accountable and aren’t answering questions about the economy is actually worrying,” he added.

Cudjoe Calls for Accountability and Economic Focus Over Rhetoric

Cudjoe was particularly critical of the government’s focus on public relations, which he argues fails to address core issues. He stressed that the leadership should engage more directly with citizens’ economic concerns, suggesting that the launch of initiatives, such as Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s app to stabilize the cedi, may be beneficial but does not go far enough in easing citizens’ burdens.

“People think an election is just a one-day phenomenon, so people will forget. But these people have real-life stories affected by the economy,” Cudjoe noted. He called for empathy and responsiveness from leaders, particularly for individuals and businesses whose savings have been hit hard, emphasizing that support and reassurance are needed instead of “bravado and bragging.”

He warned that failure to address these issues directly could have consequences, especially with upcoming elections. “These people should be answering questions directly that face people.
