City of Johannesburg (CoJ) Bursary 2025 for Young South Africans: Apply Now
The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) is inviting applications for its 2025 Bursary Programme. This initiative is part of the city’s commitment to promoting skills development and providing educational opportunities to the youth of Johannesburg. A total of 200 bursaries are available to assist young South Africans residing permanently in Johannesburg in pursuing their undergraduate studies.
Fields of Study
The bursary is open for full-time undergraduate students in the following fields:
- Actuarial Science
- Agricultural Sciences (All fields)
- Information Technology (All fields)
- International Relations and Protocol
- Built Environment (Architecture, Construction, Inspectors)
- Legal Studies
- Commerce
- Community Services
- Logistics
- Marketing
- Curatorial Studies
- Emergency Management Services/Disaster Management
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Municipal Governance
- Engineering (All fields)
- Environmental Management
- Nursing (All fields)
- Project Management
- Finance (All fields)
- Geo Information Science
- Public Relations & Administration
- Quantity Surveying
Selection Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration:
- Academic Merit: Selection will be based strictly on academic performance.
- South African Tertiary Institution: Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited institution in South Africa.
- No Other Bursaries: Candidates must not be receiving any other form of funding for their studies.
- Undergraduate Studies: The bursary supports undergraduate qualifications of at least one year’s duration. It is not available for postgraduate studies.
- Renewal Conditions: The bursary is renewable annually, provided that the recipient maintains satisfactory academic performance.
Bursary Benefits
The bursary provides financial support for the following:
- Tuition and registration fees
- Prescribed textbooks and/or study materials
The total bursary amount is limited to R40,000 per academic year.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit certified copies of the following documents:
- Latest Academic Record: To demonstrate academic merit.
- South African ID Document: Proof of citizenship.
- Proof of Residence in Johannesburg: A statement for water and lights, or rates and taxes.
- Parents’ Proof of Income: If applicable, applicants can also provide death certificates or affidavits if one or both parents are deceased.
