Cholera Outbreak in Kasoa: A recent cholera outbreak in Kasoa has tragically claimed five lives, with 30 additional patients currently receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic and Mother and Child Hospital.

The situation has alarmed local authorities, who are urging the community to adopt preventive measures to limit further spread.

Awutu Senya East Municipal Chief Executive, Anita Love Obo Amissah, shared that three of the fatalities occurred on Thursday, October 31, followed by two more deaths on Friday afternoon, raising the death toll to five. Amissah expressed her deep concern over the outbreak, underscoring the need for residents to prioritize hygiene and healthy eating habits.

Emphasis on Environmental Cleanliness and Individual Responsibility

In addressing the community, MCE Amissah emphasized the critical role of environmental cleanliness in combating cholera. She highlighted that individual efforts—such as proper waste disposal and food hygiene—are essential in reducing transmission. The MCE called for residents to stay vigilant and take proactive steps to protect themselves and their families.

Impact Beyond Kasoa: Cases Referred from Neighboring Districts

During an interview with Citi FM, Amissah noted that cholera cases have been referred to Kasoa’s health facilities from neighboring constituencies, including Awutu Senya West and Gomoa East Districts. She called for a unified, collaborative response from surrounding areas to manage the outbreak effectively, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation in containing the disease.

Amissah commended the efforts of local health authorities, who have mobilized resources to respond promptly to the outbreak. Staff at the Kasoa Polyclinic and Mother and Child Hospital have been called back from leave to assist in managing the influx of patients, demonstrating the healthcare community’s commitment to addressing the crisis.

The MCE encouraged residents to remain cautious, follow health guidelines, and seek prompt medical attention if cholera symptoms appear. “What I want to ask from the people of Kasoa is to take good care of themselves by eating healthy food,” Amissah stated, adding that healthcare facilities have done their best to manage the situation amid challenging circumstances.
