Chief of Wamanafuo-Sabikrom Urges John Mahama to Prioritize Youth Employment

Nana Sabi Ababio, the Chief of Wamanafuo-Sabikrom in the Dormaa East District of the Brong-Ahafo Region, has made an impassioned plea to former President John Dramani Mahama, calling on him to prioritize youth employment if he is elected in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Nana Sabi Ababio emphasized the dire need for job opportunities for the youth of Wamanafuo, expressing that their support for Mahama should be reciprocated with tangible action in the area of employment.

Speaking at a mini durbar held at Wamanafuo Ahyiayem on Tuesday, September 10, the chief stressed that job creation for the youth should not be conditional on educational certificates. He pointed out that the community is rallying behind Mahama without demanding credentials in exchange, and the same consideration should apply when it comes to providing job opportunities.

“Since he has visited this district and we see how things are progressing, if by God’s grace, he is elected into power, we, the people of Wamanafuo and the youth want jobs. As we support him to become president, when the time comes for the youth to be employed, that is when they will say go and bring your certificate,” the chief said.

Nana Sabi Ababio further highlighted the frustration and disappointment that may arise if job seekers are faced with demands for certificates after supporting Mahama’s candidacy. He argued that the community’s commitment to Mahama’s political aspirations should be met with opportunities for the youth, without adding unnecessary obstacles such as formal qualifications.

“No one is asking for a certificate to vote for you to become president, so when the time comes to provide employment for them, and they are asked to bring their certificates, it will be a burden on us,” Nana Sabi Ababio said.

In his closing remarks, the chief reiterated the importance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer taking their concerns seriously. He urged Mahama to ensure that youth employment becomes a key priority in his administration, should he win the upcoming elections, allowing the young people of Wamanafuo to support their families and contribute to the community’s development without unnecessary hurdles.

This plea comes amidst widespread concerns about youth unemployment across the country, with many calling on political leaders to address the issue as part of their development agenda.
