Apple iPhone Sales Drop Drastically in 1st Quarter
Apple iPhone Sales Drop: According to research firm Counterpoint, Apple iPhone sales experienced a significant decline in China during the first quarter.
Counterpoint reported a 19% drop in iPhone sales volumes, contrasting with the 1.5% growth in smartphone sales witnessed in the world’s second-largest economy during the same period.
Although the 19% decline marks an improvement compared to the estimated 24% drop in iPhone sales for the first six weeks of the year, it still reflects a challenging landscape for Apple in China.
On the other hand, Huawei saw a remarkable 70% surge in phone sales during the first quarter, attributed to the release of the 5G-capable Mate 60 series. Counterpoint’s report suggests that Huawei’s strong performance impacted Apple in the premium segment, while subdued replacement demand also affected Apple’s sales compared to previous years.
Looking ahead to the second quarter, there’s optimism that new color options and aggressive sales initiatives could potentially propel Apple back into positive territory. Additionally, anticipation is high for the unveiling of AI features at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
Despite a rise in Apple shares on Monday, the company has faced challenges in China, contributing to a 14% decline in share value since the beginning of the year.
